About the role

In partnership with the Head of Apparel and her direct reports, the Director of Production and Sourcing will lead the creation of on-trend, compelling and innovative product, continually tweaked in response to real-time consumer feedback. This will result in strong consumer engagement and retention, with an emphasis on growing lifetime value and brand enhancement.

With a focus on making Rockets of Awesome the go-to kids clothing destination, the Director of Production and Sourcing will partner with the heads of Design and Merchandising to challenge his/her team to test, iterate, shift and elevate the brand, category, product assortments and strategies.  Brand enhancement, consistency and product differentiation will lead to stronger customer loyalty and in turn, increased sales. 

The Director of Production and Sourcing must have a contemporary, mens or womens market-relevant style sense, and the ability to apply that directionally to the kids customer, all through the existing Rockets of Awesome brand lens. He/She will: be hands-on in every step of the Production and Sourcing processes in all product categories and will embrace start-up mentality to assist & innovate in all areas. 


What you’ll do...

Director of Production and Sourcing is charged with making sure that every product produced and sold is filtered through the Rockets of Awesome brand ethos and is done so in the most efficient and strategic manner. His or her responsibilities are, but not limited to:

Making Rockets of Awesome The Destination for Kids Clothing

  • Develop a flexible sourcing strategy that supports the goal of positioning Rockets of Awesome as the kids clothing authority 
  • Identify new sourcing partners as we continue to offer new categories for our customers.
  • Create the most effective tools and processes to maximize bandwidth of our team. 

Oversee the entire product development and production process: 

  • Continuously modify our vendor strategy to support high growth development needs.
  • Develop a robust strategy for product development as we move into additional product categories.
  • Create a calendar that is flexible enough to allow for multiple product categories which traditionally have different lead-times.
  • Achieve Margin goals and ontime deliveries
  • Support the supply chain manage through a very complex 4 channel business


  • Create an environment where the team is supported, motivated, inspired and encouraged.
  • Communicate strategies clearly and concisely to ensure priorities are consistent.
  • Manage multiple projects from concept through completion with focus on quality, deadline, budget and revenue.
  • Manage two direct reports and one additional next level report.

Professional Qualifications

  • Experienced (12+ years) leader; preferably has operated in an early stage, entrepreneurial company and has experience working directly with factories.
  • Innovative, team-player with proven success in a constantly evolving environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to flex between micro and macro level thinking and work with all levels of management; ability to deep dive into small and big issues across the whole scope of the business.
  • Thought leader who thinks beyond product categories; someone who sees the bigger picture and impact that his or her business has on the total.
  • A solution oriented, critical thinker who can balance multiple projects and priorities
  • A communicative leader. Able to develop and maintain effective relationships and partnerships both cross-functionally within the business and with external production partners
  • Exceptionally organized. Able to multitask and prioritize, highly detail-oriented with exceptional follow-through
  • Undergraduate degree
